Why Are Hospitals Important to Economies?
A data analysis conducted in the United States shows the impact of hospital employment on the labor force at the State level. One graph reports the ripple effect of hospitals’ and health systems’ spending for good and services and another one reports the number of jobs directly or indirectly supported by hospitals and health systems. This recalls that the IHF Secretariat collected resources from its members end of 2017 on measuring the economic contribution of hospitals to the economy. Shaping Policy Change in Population Health: Policy Entrepreneurs, Ideas, and Institutions
For public health policies to be successful, they must consider political realities and institutional structures, including through the social science literature on policy changes. This article examines how the key components of the policy change literature could contribute towards the effective development of population health policies. Shaping policy change would require a realignment of the existing school of thought, where the contribution of population health seems to end at knowledge translation.

Varieties of Health Care Devolution: "Systems or Federacies"?
Some European countries have transferred health care services to sub-national units. This article examines the major trends in two types of devolution: a "federacy model" where only a few territories obtain health care responsibilities (such as in the United Kingdom) and a "systems model" where the entire health system is devolved to sub-national units (such as in Spain). The results suggest that the "systems model" gives rise to significant political interdependence.

French University Hospitals
The French University Hospitals form a network of 32 facilities for which campus integration, practice certification and recognition of excellence in education, care and research, made them state-of-the-art university hospitals.
The facilities are located in the main cities accessible by plane and by TGV (High Speed Train).

8th Global Patients Congress Miami, Florida, USA, 24 – 26th of May
Dr. Erik Normann was invited as a representative of IHF to give a presentation about patients' rights and take part in a panel discussion on how to advocate and to empower the patient organizations. 25th International HPH Conference in Vienna
Promoting hospitals and Health The annual International Conference on Health Services (HPH) is the main event of the international HPH network. It is a forum of learning and exchange on health promotion in and by health services for health practitioners, consultants, scientists and politicians and hosts 500 delegates on average every year. The 25th anniversary of international HPH conferences was celebrated with almost 550 delegates on April 12-14, 2017 in Vienna, Austria. Thereby, the conference came back to the place where it all started in the late 1980s. The local host, the Austrian HPH network (ONGKG) and the University of Vienna – one of the oldest universities in Europe – created an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere for the conference. -
Culture matters: using a cultural contexts of health approach to enhance policy-making
In the WHO European Region, the roll-out of the policy framework Health 2020 effectively reintroduced well-being as a central concern for WHO, re-engaging public health with the full complexity of subjective, lived experience and opening the door to a more systematic engagement with the cultural contexts of health and well-being. This shift was reinforced by the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which provides an additional mandate for seeking to understand and address cultural contexts of health and well-being to policy development.
